Dear Friends & Colleagues,

“Gar firdaus ae baruhe zamin ast; Hamin astu hamin astu hamin ast”
If there is heaven on earth it is here, it is here it is here". These are the words spoken a few hundred years ago by a besotted Mughal emperor for Kashmir and they ring true even today.

Over the last two decades, terrorism and global warming - not to forget unplanned growth - have taken a toll on what was described as paradise by the Mughal rulers. Fortunately, Mother Nature is made of sterner stuff and while some of the sheen may have gone from Kashmir’s beauty, there is still much to go back for. Not once, but many times over. And each season, be it spring or autumn, summer or winter, Kashmir can be explored with different perspectives, different colours and different activities. There is no best time to visit the Kashmir Valley, every season offers its bountiful best.

In this issue Passages from India highlights a visit to the enchanting Kashmir Valley this fortnight. We feature the newly opened Khyber Resort and Spa, offering world class facilities for skiers and golfers at Gulmarg

Spring brings in a riot of colours with a blaze of blooms. There is a whole culture that revolves around the food and how it is eaten. The lilting scent of Wazwan in the evening air the gushtabas, ristas, the botis and seekhs to mention just a few or the heavenly glass of sweetened Kahwa with its dry fruits and heavenly touch of saffron. The arts and craft of Kashmir are renowned world over; we highlight the exquisite handmade silk carpets…each piece a work of art!

Enjoy this Passage to India that promises you a magical experience taking you on another incredible journey in the Himalayas!

Warm regards
